Cruise to Nowhere

I have cruised on the Grand Princess before 1 year ago for New Year's Eve; it was nice to know that a big cruise ship will be stationed from San Pedro without having to travel very far by plane. I will not get into much of the prelim. pre-boarding as it was usual and speedy (<45mins). This ship itself was very much identical in decor and layout plan as the Grand Princess. In fact, I knew where everything was without ever getting lost as if I have never left the Grand. My expectations were no high as I expected the crew to be sup-bar as this was the "maiden" voyage from the US. To my amazement; staff were very friendly and courteous- helpful to the end and appeared to be very informative. Occasionally, I did see a couple of servers argue in their own language as they appeared to be frustrated. We had a balcony cabin on the Caribe deck C738 - it was great - balcony was huge compared to other decks; plenty of closet space and a safe ( no different than the Grand). The Bed was very UNCOMFORTABLE - it was very springy and you can even feel the split between the two beds (we had the queen configuration)- a BIG disappointment - especially when you consider that this is a brand new ship - we asked our room steward if something can be done to no avail - again obviously not fitting of the Princess Motto - as soon as we boarded, we made a reservation @ Sabatini’s (for $15 a head - its probably the best food you will taste on this ship - 7-8 courses of great food - however, I must say both service and food was better at the Grand- I am assuming this will only get better with time). Personal choice service was great - my wife and I always had a table of our own - food was usually OK - again it was better at the Grand - room service choices and breakfast choices did improve over the last cruise.

Workout facilities were outstanding - my wife and I really enjoyed the free weights and the machines which were very well organized and, of course, new. The cruise ship was beautiful as everything smelled new - I am sure this will get worse over time. My experience with this cruise was satisfactory - people are generally friendly; facilities are nice - Bedding and Food quality needs to be improved - lobster and lamb shops were terrible - immersed in dressing that took away the flavor (with the exception of the Pizzas which are fantastic)- I Hope Princess is listening. Will I sail on this ship again - Of course - its the best bargain - the entertainment was good, the comedians were funny; the food I am sure will improve - and heck, its in CA - at my back yard – no FLYING!!!
