Planned and built by legendary Finnish Wärtsilä shipyard as "the most advanced cruise ship ever built", the Royal Princess was well ahead of her time when she entered service in 1984. Featuring all-outside cabins, many with private balconies, she sails on "exotic" itineraries.

Excerpts from Princess' Website One of the most innovative ships ever introduced, the five-star Royal Princess set a new standard in luxury cruising when it debuted in 1984. The 45,000-ton superstructure, which even by today's design standards is considered ahead of its time, represents one-of-a-kind technology and was the first ship to feature all outside cabins. Royal Princess also caused a stir when it was introduced, as it was christened by Princess Diana, Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales. The concept for the ship's interior design, to create a simple, yet elegant atmosphere, was developed by Hirsch/Bedner, Los Angeles-based design consultants specializing in passenger ship and resort hotel interior design.
