Cruise Line: Princess Cruise Line (Golden Princess)
Ship: golden princess
Sailing Date: January 8th, 2005
Itinerary: Southern Caribbean
This was the second cruise that my wife and I have taken. We sailed the
Southern itinerary from San Juan, P.R. The ports we visited were St.
Lucia, Barbados, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. Although throughout
our cruise we had a lot of rain it didn't put a damper on the ports we
visited. St. Lucia was absolutely beautiful. The pitons (2 mountain peaks
rising out of the ocean) are worth seeing again and again. Barbados was
very trashy. If you are going to do anything there book it with the cruise
line. Antigua was great. We highly recommend going to the beach. In St.
Maarten we did the America's Cup sailing race. It was worth every penny.
Even if I had quite a large lady fall into my lap. St. Thomas was great as
well, especially the shopping. Overall the itinerary was awesome. I wish I
could say the same about our cruise line. Granted, we have only sailed
once before. It was on the Navigator of the Seas from Royal Caribbean.
This ship overall was absolutely terrible. For starters the food was so
disgusting that we always looked for other places to eat off of the ship
and also looked for food to buy to bring on the ship. The Navigator's food
was excellent. The Golden Princess's service was terrible along with the
food. I bought a coke sticker the first day. Every time I tried to use it,
no one wanted to help me unless I went to one of the bars. I was almost
scared to use the sticker especially at the buffet and pizzeria. The only
good service we received was our bedroom steward and our waiter at the
stake house in which we had to spend $30.00 to eat. The ship is so poorly
laid out the it is tough to get around. The entertainment was poor. The
cruise director (Omar) was ridiculous. He thought he was so cool when we
really wasn't. If you are looking for a large ship that you won't get sick
on, do not pick this ship. On the Navigator, we didn't feel a thing. On
the Golden Princess, we couldn't walk down the hall without falling
against the wall. The ship always seemed to stick.
They positioned the main outdoor pool and indoor pool directly between the
buffet and the pizzeria. The smell of the food seemed to be trapped in the
pool area. Especially in the indoor pool area. No one was ever in the
indoor pool, probably because of the smell.
At time of check out we went to the purser's desk to check out our onboard
account. We waited in line for over 45 min. and there were only 3 people
in front of us. There were 5 separate people fighting with the worker at
the desk over their accounts. The workers were very unprofessional and not
courteous. They have no idea what customer service is. I'm just glad we
didn't have a problem with our account.
Needless to say we will NEVER sail with Princess again. If you want a
beautiful fun cruising experience, cruise with Royal Caribbean's Navigator
of the seas. If I had to rate this cruise on a scale from 1 to 10, overall
I would rate this ship a 4. NOT worth the money we spent. Just to let you
know, every one else that we talked to felt the same way we did. I hope
this helps.
