To our delight we were upgraded from a mini-suite to a penthouse suite.
The room was very spacious and the balcony was enormous. There was plenty
of closet space and drawers to put our stuff. The marble bathroom was very
nice, especially the whirlpool tub. The only complaint we had was that the
room was never cleaned well. The stateroom attendant picked up the room,
but never really cleaned it. We even found someone else's shoes in the
room the first day.
We were pampered with Champaign and comfortable slippers the 1st day. We
also received hors d'ouvers every night.
Food: The food was decent and the service ok but doesn't compare to
Celebrity. We are very picky when it comes to food. If you want a cruise
with exceptional food and service at an affordable price, the best cruise
line is Celebrity. The breakfast buffet was ok, but we weren't able to get
fresh omelets made to order like on Celebrity. We ate at the specialty
restaurant the Desert Rose one night and the food was very good. We had
Filet Mignon. The cost was $15 a person. The specialty restaurant on the
Celebrity was far superior.
The lunch buffet was mediocre. Again the Celebrity's buffets were better.
I missed the delicious pastries on Celebrity, however Princess did have
the fruit tarts.
Excursions:
St. Thomas: We recommend going to Magen's Bay or the shopping area.
It's much cheaper to just take a taxi than to do a planned excursion
through the cruise line. We don't recommend walking to the shopping area.
It's way too far and a bus or taxi is only $3 a person.
Margarita: We went on the "La Restinga Nature Tour." It was very
relaxing and enjoyable. We got to see and pet a lot of animals (monkeys,
snakes, birds) at the Margarita Tropical Garden. The boat ride of La
Restinga was a lot of fun and not very crowded. We got to see birds and
even a sea horse in the water.
Dominica: This island was a disappointment. The only attraction is
a small waterfall after a 30-45 minute drive. Everyone and their mother
was there.
St. Kitts: We went on the "Off the Beaten Track" excursion and we
highly recommend it. It was a very educational tour that highlighted the
most beautiful parts of the island. We got to sample sugar cane, various
home grown fruits and other pastries.
Aruba: We went on the "Countryside and Beach Horseback Ride." The
ranch had a lot of horses (some looked too skinny). There was a fairly
decent length ride (1.5 hours) through the desert before arriving at the
beach. We were very hot and thirsty when we arrived at the beach. The
water was too choppy for swimming.
