I am 73 years old and was traveling with my wife. I am also handicapped
and use a walker to get around. When we got off the bus from the airport
at the ships pier one of the staff saw that I had problems walking. They
immediately moved me and my wife inside and put me in a wheelchair. Did
not have to wait on any lines. They expedited my check in and took me
immediately to my room. The handicapped room was excellent. Much wider
than a standard cabin with many handrails. We were on Baha deck just
outside the elevator passage. The steward and restaurant staff were
excellent. Food was great. If you have a medical problem definitely ask
for a handicapped room - its no extra charge.
We only used one of the ships standard tours. Its was the two flags tour
at St Maarten. This is a terrible tour. You drive in the bus for an hour,
then they dump you in a flea market for an hour and then back on the bus
for another hour. I resent strongly bringing put in a flea market for 1
hour. On the other islands we did our own thing. Got off the ship and took
a cab to see the things we wanted to see. This is definitely the way to
go. St Lucia is another problem. The ship did not dock at the pier and the
passengers had to use small boats to get ashore. If your handicapped you
probable cant use the small boats. Old people also have problems. They
keep this a secret from you until the day of arrival when its too late to
cancel your tours and get your money back. Overall the trip was good.
Beautiful ship, excellent staff, great food. The islands are very poor and
its depressing to see how the people have to live. Enjoy the cruise and
forget the tours. Departing from the ship was also a positive experience.
Handicapped people waited in one of the restaurants and they wheeled you
off the ship and put you on a bus, could not ask for better treatment.
