After researching various cruises for the week that I vacationed, I found a
reasonable deal on the Caribbean Princess. Upon talking to the Princess people
on the phone, I was informed that the ship was the biggest/newest in the class,
which seemed intriguing. However, I was unable to get much detail about the
amenities onboard from a phone conversation, and decided to book based on the
price. While waiting in line to board the ship, I noticed that the majority of
the passengers were in the range of 60 years and up. Being 23 and single, I was
hoping to have a better mix of passengers to mingle with. At any rate, after
boarding the ship, I was pleased to find an elaborate setup, and was very
pleased by the interior of the ship. My bone to pick is with the design of the
upper decks. I found an abundance of pools, and hardly any space dedicated to
sport activities. There was one area at the front of the ship that had table
tennis, and a small mock tennis court. Not even a shuffleboard area, or any
basketball!
For the most part, the ship itself was more than adequate, minus the fitness
aspect. I found that the staff treated their duties as a job, rather than being
cheerful and enthusiastic about making the passengers' vacations a memorable
experience. There were not enough activities going on during our sea days
onboard, and the ones that did only lasted 45min maximum. The activity staff
just dropped the ball. There were not many opportunities to participate in
organized acitivity, which hindered most passengers ability to meet other
vacationers. It was a keep to yourself atmosphere that was provided by the
staff.
Luckily, the ports were amazing, which was enough to make me want to try again.
However, I think if you are in my situation, you are best fit going on a Royal
Caribbean or Carnival cruise line.
