Just got back from the Caribbean Princess cruise that departed on 9/27
(Hurricane date from 9/25)
First time and last time for a cruise on the Princess Line. Though it was a very
large ship, I very unimpressed with the service and especially the food. We have
cruised Royal Caribbean and Carnival and I would suggest Carnival over Princess
any day of the week. No one has yet to come close to RCI and the food and staff.
I think Princess spent too much time designing the ship and packing in the
people that they took out many of the extras. Like no midnight buffet, no free
ice cream, no free soda, college type entertainment for dancers and singers.
Best part was a comedian called “Sarge”. He was the only really good and funny
thing about this cruise.
Though we spent a lot of time in the casino, I think we did so cause there
really wasn’t a lot of things to interest us going on around the ship. Most
lines will show the past day activities on the tv in your room and to me, that
gets you a little more involved and says hmmm maybe it might be fun. Not on this
ship.
We chose the flex dinner plan and like many of the other comments, very
disappointed in the level of food and presentation. Especially when they don’t
get the order right the first night of you visit and look at you odd when you
tell them they goofed. Believe me, give up and just eat what’s in front of you.
Ports were very bland since the change went from East to West and got stuck with
Costa Maya and Cozumel (3rd time to these ports) but then the hurricane hits,
you really can’t complain as nature will do what it does.
Maybe the trip would have been a bit better if we went to the Eastern Caribbean
but 7 days on this ship would be way too much. Maybe I could’ve tried to change
to the RCI ship in Costa Maya without anyone knowing (grin).
When sitting with a table of 8 during the last night of dining, they all said
the same things about the cruise (especially the food and service) 1 couple were
1st time cruises and the other 2 were cruisers from RCI, Carnival and Holland so
you know it wasn’t just me thinking the same thing about this ship and reviews.
I put things on a scale of 1 – 10 and Princess would be a 5 whereas I would rank
Carnival 6 and RCI a 9.
So, if you think about Princess and the Caribbean Princess, I urge you think
again and look for another line. The only bright spots were the comedian and a
big screen movie while you were swimming…. Not worth the price of the cruise at
all. If you do decide (you'll eb sorry) make sure you get the express check in
on the internet. It helps more than you know.
