This was my first cruise for my 13 year old daughter and myself. It was
wonderful! The Teen Club was great for my daughter. They scheduled activities
every day and my daughter loved it. If you did not want to participate with any
activities you were still welcome to watch or hang out in the Teen Club. This
was a room just for teens. They had music and dance lights with areas to play
cards or just sit and talk. Many nights she did not even come into the room
until after 12:00 a.m. At home she has to be at the house by dark but I felt
very comfortable with her walking around the ship or hanging out at the Teen
Club.
We had excursions scheduled for every island but my daughter became sick from
the heat (were from Michigan and are not used to seeing so much sun shine) so I
took her to the doctor on board ($60.00) who excused the excursions we could not
attend so we were refunded the money for them. I was not fond of the doctor at
all but was happy to see the credit on my bill!
Every excursion we did attend were great! The people were so nice.
The ship was so beautiful and very clean. The employees were always busy and
very friendly.
Movies under the stars- this was great! On the ship they have a BIG screen by
one of the main pools. At night they would show a movie or a concert. They would
set up the lounge chairs at an angle so everyone could see with a small blanket
(in case you were chilly) then they would make popcorn and walk around passing
it out. You could watch the screen from the main deck or take a few flights up
to watch from different decks. There were about 3 differnet decks you could see
the screen from.
One suggestion I would have is not go schedule a cruise during hurricane season.
This year there have been 3 hurricanes back-to-back. During my cruise, we were
detoured by the 2nd one "Hurrican Frances". The cruise line was great in
handeling this. From the beginning, they changed our rout so we would be on the
other side of the Bahama's away from the hurricane. On the way back in we were
delayed due to the hurrician moving slower than expected. We ended up staying
the night in Mexico which was a bonus! Loved it there! Then we were at sea for 2
days. The last day was the toughest... the waves in the ocean from the hurrican
were rocking the ship. There were waves in the pools that were not supposed to
be there.
I can say that I had heard from others who traveled with Carnival that said they
were given a "discount" for internet access and phone calls due to the
hurricane. Princess allowed "free" calls to anywhere (if you could get a line
out, it was so busy) and free internet access. There was always a line at the
internet but it was only about a 20 min wait. This allowed us to call home to
let them know we were fine and to make other arrangements for travel or hotel
due to the dalay. The entire staff at Princess were of great help during this
and I personally was impressed by the way they handled everything.
Princess also had an update of the hurricanes and each ships location on their
web page. I checked Carnival's web page when I returned and they did not have
anything about the hurricane listed.
I would choose Princess over any other cruise line any day.
