Originally built in 1962 as the S/S France, this ship was the pride of the Grande Nation until it was laid up in 1974. Purchased by Norwegian Cruise Line in 1979, the grand liner was turned into cruising's very first superliner by Germany's Lloyd Werft shipyard. The same shipyard furhter enlarged the ship in 1990 and last refurbished her in late 2001. Still a magnificent vessel today, the Norway has many loyal fans who prefer her over the newer ships.
