Launched in 1994 by Greek entrepreneur George Poulides with a single ship, The Azur, Festival Cruises is known as First European Cruises in America. Originally operating a fleet of smaller second-hand vessels, Festival's first newbuild, Mistral, entered service in 1999. In June, 2001 the larger European Vision inaugurated. A third newbuild, the European Stars, debuted in April, 2002. Festival now operates two different brands - the four-star Premium Fleet (European Stars, European Vision and Mistral) and the three-star Discovery Fleet (Bolero, Caribé, Flamenco and The Azur).
