Century-Western Caribbean 4/24/04 - 5/1
Are you tired? Do you need some tlc? Have you ever wondered how nice it would be
to be treated like royalty?
Do you enjoy the beauty of a breathtaking sunrise, or sunset that will bring you
closer to the Heavens than ever before? (Ok, Ok, but really, if you long for the
above, you deserve a vacation on the Celebrity Century!)
My husband and I, along with our 4 daughters (ages 25, 23, 21 and 17) took this
cruise and every one of us were delighted.
The Century is a grand ship, yes older, but still in great shape and immaculate
from stem to stern! Every crew member is there to make your 7 days the most
relaxing, enjoyable experience ever! We appreciated everything they did, all
with sincere warm smiles and caring ways, you felt at home the moment you
stepped on that ship!
Embarkation was smooth, and the moment we stepped onto the ship we were greeted
with a glass of champagne! Nice touch Celebrity! We went straight to our rooms,
and our cabin steward was there in a flash to welcome us and ask if we needed
anything.
Our daughters cabin steward did the same for them. (they had their hands full
with 4 young ladies in one room!!!) The rooms are a comfortable size, and the
bathroom is well equipped for a small area. The showers are a very comfortable
size as well. These rooms are always being cleaned by the cabin stewards! (I
miss them so much!)
Our oldest daughter has major food allergies, and we approached our waiter
(Victor...who is the BEST!!!) He immediately spoke with our daugher about the
foods she can eat, and every night went out of his way to make sure her meals
were made correctly. She was in awe as we were too. The food was exceptional,
beautifully prepared, and everyone was extremely impressed with the variations
each night and how delicious each dish was! (I did not want to leave, nor did
anyone else for that matter) They really care about each morsel, and if it
appears you may not like something, immediately Victor or Ivan (assistant waiter
who we love too) would ask "would you like something else?, is everything ok?"
They just go beyond the call of duty, and we can't thank them enough.
The entertainment was good too. The comedians were very funny, and the
juggler/comedian was so talented and funny too.
I was lucky in the casino, and found the machines to be pretty fair. (I won the
jackpot on the 3rd night on one of the machines, and came in 2nd place in the
blackjack tournament which was pretty sweet too!)
The poolside was nice, yes the "pool chair hogs" are aboard every ship, and not
much is done about them. I can see saving seats if you're just leaving the pool
for 10 minutes, but when the whole front sections have towels on them and
belongings on them for more than 1 hour (I sat in a chair just outside the pool
area, and one lady was saving 8 pool chairs) after which I asked her if I could
use one she said "my friends are coming right back" I told her they've been
empty for 1 hr and she said "they'll be right back!" 15 minutes later, her
friend came back and said "Oh, we're sitting over that side, I'm getting my
towels now"! People are just rude, and plain selfish! That women never said a
word to me...not that I expected her to! It's rather silly, but that's how it
is.
There's nothing better than those nice "ice cold" face cloths, that the crew
comes around with, while your sunning by the pool. Boy do they feel great!
Another classic treat that Celebrity offers, and well appreciated!
Our first stop was Jamaica. I chose to stay at the pool while my daughters and
husband went to the falls. Not much else interested me there, and I was thrilled
just to be out in the warm sun by the pool. (plenty of chairs while people are
in port)
2nd stop was Grand Cayman....do go to Stingray City. What a thrill it is to swim
with those beautiful creatures. My daughters loved it (although 2 came out of
the water sooner than I expected!!!) Grand Cayman is a beautiful island, but not
much time is spent there so that's about all we could do.
3rd stop was Cozumel. I love the beaches and snorkeling there. Nice clean
beaches and clean showers at Chakanaav (spelling??) park. It's a great place to
spend the whole day, and only $10 to get in.
Day at sea, and 4th stop was Key West. This is a great place to just walk
around, lots of shopping, and plenty of small "watering holes", etc. The best
advice I can give is to get yourself a Western Caribbean tour book (I belong to
AAA, and ordered one a few months before the trip) Or just go online, to the
library, whatever....just make sure you get to see what interests you for the
island you are visiting. I just wish that the ship didn't leave till after
sunset, that would have been nice.
The week went by too fast, but every minute was an enjoyable one. We were all
very pleased, and also very sad when the last night fell upon us. This was a
great ship, you will not be disappointed! (ok..there's always a few out there
that could find something bad with 100% perfection, but there's no pleasing
those folks!) (Note, this was our 4th cruise within the last 3 years, we sailed
on Enchantment of the Seas (RCC), Millineum (Celebrity), Grand Princess, and
this ship Century)
I would rate the
Enchantment 5 star, Millineum 5.5 star, Grand Princess 5 star, and Century 5.5
star.
Thank you Century, I look forward to sailing again, hopefully soon! Bon Voyage
Elaine from N.H.
