Century Cruise Review

Helen Dickinson

Age: 46 to 55
Number of Cruises: 3 to 5 Cruises
Ship: Century
Departure Date March, 13, 1999
Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean

We were traveling with a group of 22 people and Celebrity’s group department did a wonderful job. Everything went smoothly although there was some confusion as to whether or not Celebrity would automatically pick up the bags at the airport for the 4 in the group who had booked separate air but had purchased transfers. (They did for 2 of the 4 but I still don't understand why they got the ones they did and not the others). The rest of us were booked on a nonstop American Airlines flight and check-in and the flight were flawless.

We were met at the gate by a Celebrity agent and escorted to the bus for transfer to the pier. We didn't have to claim our bags at the airport- they were taken right to our cabin. Check-in at the pier was fast and efficient - and a buffet lunch was being served as we boarded. The cabins were larger than I expected with a large window. There was an amazing amount of storage space for a cruise cabin and we were able to completely unpack and store the suitcases in a closet. The bathroom was also larger than I had previously experienced with a regular shower stall. The water pressure was also great throughout the cruise.

All of the crew were wonderful - the service was excellent! The room steward had fresh towels in the cabin after every use and was very friendly. The dining room staff was as efficient as in the best restaurants worldwide - and friendly besides. The social staff were young, friendly and enthusiastic.

The food.....what a treat! It was superb!! The midnight buffet was absolutely beautiful - everything was edible including the flowers (the red flowers were carved from beets, orange from carrots, etc). It was head and shoulders above any buffet I've ever been to including other midnight buffets.

The ship stopped at San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maartin, and Nassau. Other than San Juan, (which would be a good place to miss), the ports offered great shopping and some of the best beaches in the world.

The entertainment onboard ship was only ok. The song and dance reviews were almost amateurish and were a disappointment as were the stage sets. This was the only part of the cruise experience that was less than excellent. I would highly recommend this cruise line to all discerning travelers. It was wonderful.
